International PhD at Brand University of Applied Sciences

Brand University of Applied Sciences offers a doctoral pathway in cooperation with the University of Southern Denmark. The programme is designed for candidates who want to conduct application-oriented research in brand management, brand communication or brand design.

The degree is awarded by the University of Southern Denmark and is internationally recognised. Research and teaching take place in English and can be combined across Hamburg, Sonderborg and remote formats.

Prof. Dr. Henrik Sattler is the director of the doctoral program. He is an award-winning researcher and has repeatedly been ranked among the top 1% of business administration researchers in Germany. He has published five books and more than 50 peer-reviewed articles in leading international journals, including the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, and Marketing Science.

Doctoral Programme Overview

Research Focus

The programme focuses on practice-oriented and interdisciplinary research within our three research clusters. A particular emphasis can be placed on intercultural topics and Germany–China relations.

Admission

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree (120 ECTS) in business, management, design research or a related field and provide proof of English proficiency (IELTS 6.5). Required documents include a CV, motivation letter, Master’s transcript, research proposal and two letters of recommendation.

Programme Structure

Doctoral candidates work on an independent research project and complete a thesis based on published research papers. The programme also includes PhD courses, academic supervision, international research exchange, teaching or knowledge dissemination activities and a public thesis defence.

Supervision

Each candidate receives individual academic support from supervisors at Brand University and the University of Southern Denmark, complemented by mentoring, seminars and regular progress reviews. research in brand management, brand communication, brand design and international brand contexts.
